What is the purpose of an AB Equipment forklift operator course?

AB Equipment Forklift Operator Training Courses are designed to improve operating technique and make forklift operators more aware of the safety and mechanical implications of forklift operation.

As a result of improved techniques and greater knowledge, your operator becomes more productive and more profitable to your company, as well as meeting the obligations of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

AB Equipment offers a range of forklift operator courses from learners to 'F' Endorsement. The courses cater for both individual and group requirements and can be held on-site at company premises (subject to numbers), or at any AB Equipment purpose-built branch facility nationwide.

Courses Available:

AB Equipment has Department of Labour & NZQA accredited Instructors conducting the following forklift courses nationwide:

• Learners Forklift Operators Course
  This course is for people with no practical experience on a forklift.
• Standard Forklift Operators Course
  This course is designed for operators who have experience but who do not hold a certificate.
• Refresher Forklift Operators Course
  This course is designed for operators who have held a certificate for 3 years and require re-certification.
• F Endorsement Assessment
  For operators who are required to operate a forklift on a road, or anywhere deemed to be a road. The F Endorsement can be run in conjunction with one of the above courses.

AB Equipment Instructors are also Work Place Assessors for the following unit standards(all at level 3):

• 10851 – Operate a forklift (7 credits)
• 10852 – Operate a forklift with attachment (3 credits)
• 18496 – Operate a forklift on the road (2 credits)
• 18409 – Operate a forklift with a safety platform (4 credits).

Note: AB Equipment will supply refreshments, lunch, and all stationary requirements. Refreshments and lunch are not supplied for on-site courses.

 

On Completion of Course

On successfully completing the course Operators will receive:

• A Department of Labour approved certificate, and/or a New Zealand Transport Agency certificate (F Endorsement)
• A covering letter detailing course results and other additional information
• A wallet-sized certificate that includes employer's authorisation.
• A Forklift Operators handbook
• A pen
• A cap.

What are my legal obligations?

Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and the Approved Code of Practice for Forklifts, it is a requirement that all Forklift Operators are trained, certified and authorised to operate forklifts.

Note: Holding a Motor Vehicle Licence, even with an 'F' Endorsement, does not entitle that person to operate a forklift in the workplace.

What would happen if a Forklift Operator had an accident and did not hold a current certificate issued by a Department of Labour Registered Instructor?

The Employer could be liable for prosecution as of the 5th of May 2003:

• The maximum fine courts can impose has increased to $500,000, or two years in jail, or a combination of both.
• Inspectors can issue infringement notices and impose fines of between $100 and $4,000 for minor breaches of the Act.

Note: Insurance companies may not cover any claims made where the Employer fails to train its staff according to the Act.

Student required to bring along their current full class one drivers licence

Note: If your drivers licence reads the following, "must be accompanied by supervisor (except moped/ATV)", on the back, then you are unable to do the F Endorsement.
